Ajax manager Maurice Steijn has urged Mohammed Kudus to stay at the club for one more year, saying that he could be worth double his current value if he does.
Kudus, 22, has been linked with a move to several top clubs, including Chelsea and Arsenal. He has a contract with Ajax until 2024, but has reportedly rejected a one-year contract extension.
Steijn said that he believes Kudus could develop into a world-class player if he stays at Ajax for one more year.
“I feel that if he stayed another year, the real top clubs would come for him,” Steijn said. “If we become champions and he scores twenty goals, he might go for double. We’re trying to tell him that.”
Kudus is a versatile midfielder who can play in a number of positions. He has been praised for his dribbling skills, passing ability, and eye for goal.
He made his debut for Ajax in 2020 and has since made 50 appearances for the club, scoring 10 goals. He has also been capped 14 times by Ghana.
Steijn said that he is confident that Kudus can become a top player if he stays at Ajax.
“He has all the qualities to be a top player,” Steijn said. “He is still young and he has a lot of potential. I think he can be a very important player for us next season.”
It remains to be seen whether Kudus will heed Steijn’s advice and stay at Ajax for one more year. However, if he does, he could be worth double his current value by the end of the season.
