South African Premier Soccer League club AmaZulu are preparing to report Nigerien striker Victorien Adebayor to FIFA for lying about his travel arrangements, according to a source at the club.
Adebayor joined AmaZulu in July 2023, but he has yet to make an appearance for the club. He has been back home in Niamey, Niger for the past few weeks, and the club has been unable to get him to return to South Africa.
“We sent him several tickets to come and he never took the flights,” the source reveal to Soccerhub. “He lied to us many times. He acted very bad. He never succeed when he went abroad and I understand now why.”
AmaZulu let go of Malawian striker Gabadinho Mhango to make room for Adebayor, and they are now frustrated by his lack of professionalism.
We are going to report him to FIFA,” the source said. “We have no other choice. He is a professional footballer and he needs to behave like one.”
He is the all-time leading scorer for the Niger national team.
It remains to be seen what action FIFA will take against Adebayor if AmaZulu do report him. However, it is clear that the club is running out of patience with the striker.
