Arsenal have reached a full agreement with Ajax to sign defender Jurrien Timber, Soccerhub can confirm.
The Premier League side will pay €40 million (£34.3m) plus €5 million (£4.3m) in largely realistic bonuses for Timber. The 22-year-old has been granted permission to undergo medical and finalise personal terms with Arsenal.
Timber is a highly-rated defender who has been capped five times by the Netherlands. He is known for his versatility, being able to play both centre-back and right-back.
In 2022-23, Timber played more passes into the final third (399) than any other centre-back in Europe’s top seven leagues. He is also an accomplished dribbler, averaging 1.5 dribbles per game last season.
Timber’s arrival is a major coup for Arsenal, who have been looking to add to their defensive options this summer. He is seen as a long-term replacement for David Luiz, who left the club at the end of last season.
Timber’s signing is the latest in a busy summer for Arsenal, who have also signed Fabio Vieira, Gabriel Jesus, and Matt Turner. The Gunners are looking to challenge for the Champions League places next season, and Timber’s arrival will give them a much-needed boost in their quest for silverware.
Timber’s Career
Timber began his career at Feyenoord’s youth academy before moving to Ajax in 2014. He made his first-team debut for Ajax in March 2020 and has since gone on to make over 100 appearances for the club.
Timber has won two Eredivisie titles and one KNVB Cup with Ajax. He was also part of the Netherlands squad that reached the final of the 2021 UEFA Nations League.
Timber’s Impact at Arsenal
Timber is expected to make an immediate impact at Arsenal. He is a versatile defender who can play both centre-back and right-back. He is also a good passer and dribbler, which will add to Arsenal’s attacking threat.
Timber’s arrival will give Arsenal a much-needed boost in their quest for silverware. He is a young, talented defender who has the potential to be a star for many years to come.
