Former Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy has filed a “multi-million-pound” claim against the club over unpaid wages. The 29-year-old is seeking the return of pay he is owed by Man City up until the end of his contract, which ended in June 2023.
Mendy was charged with rape and sexual assault in 2021, and Manchester City stopped paying him his £100,000-a-week salary. He was eventually found not guilty of all charges in July 2023.
Mendy’s lawyer, David Chiem, told Sky Sports: “We can confirm that Mr. Mendy has instructed us to commence legal action against Manchester City Football Club for unpaid wages. We believe that Manchester City were wrong to stop paying Mr. Mendy his wages, and we are confident that we will be successful in reclaiming the money that is owed to him.
Manchester City has not yet commented on the claim.
