Welcome soccer fans! It’s time to talk about the Nigeria U20 National Team, the Flying Eagles, and their journey to the 2023 African Cup of Nations U20.
The Flying Eagles were recently drawn into Group A of the 2023 African Cup of Nations U20, alongside Egypt, the 2019 runners-up, Senegal, and Mozambique, This highly competitive group will be a tough challenge for the Flying Eagles, but the team is certainly up for it.
Nigeria is one of the most successful teams in the history of the AFCON U20. The Flying Eagles have won the tournament three times, and have been runners-up an additional three times. They also boasted a memorable run in the 2017 edition, where they reached the semi-finals before being knocked out by Mali.
Reacting to the draws the manager of the side Ladan Bosso, hint on the possiblities of the Flying Eagles scaling through the group.
“The group is a normal group. Every team that qualifies for the U20 Africa Cup of Nations is hopeful of qualifying for the World Cup
“So, whether we are in a tough group or not, if you want to qualify for the World Cup, you must play against the top teams at the Africa Cup of Nations.” says Bosso.
“We will take it step by step. We won’t put any country first, we must respect every country in our group and we’ll work towards it.
“This team is not Bosso’s team, it’s Nigeria’s team. So, I want everyone to pray for the team now that the draws have been made.” he said.
The 2023 African Cup of Nations U20 kicks off in February in Egypt, and the Flying Eagles will be looking to make a strong start to their campaign. They have a tough group to negotiate, but with the right attitude and team spirit, the Flying Eagles could make it to the knockout stages and beyond.
