18-year-old Nigerian striker Shola Elijah made a stunning debut for Flamengo U-20 in the Prague Tournament, scoring a goal in a 1-1 draw against Slavia Prague.
Despite his outstanding performance, Flamengo U-20 narrowly missed out on a spot in the final, as they needed a win to progress.
Elijah, who was signed by Flamengo in August, has quickly integrated into the team and is seen as a potential star of the future. He showed his promise in the Prague Tournament, also playing a key role in Flamengo’s 1-0 victory over Egypt’s Al Ain.
The Nigerian prodigy first caught Flamengo’s attention in the 2022 Viareggio Cup, where he helped his team reach the final. His performances in Italy drew comparisons to former Nigerian star Oba Oba Martins, who made a name for himself in the same event back in 2002.
Flamengo were quick to secure Elijah’s services, sending a scout to Nigeria for a second evaluation. His talents were quickly approved, and he was signed to a long-term contract.
Elijah is born on February 22, 2005, in Ifaki, Nigeria. He possesses a natural flair for the game and has attracted interest from other top Brazilian clubs, including Palmeiras. However, it was Flamengo who successfully secured his signature, betting on his immense potential to bolster their squad.
Despite Flamengo’s failure to reach the final in Prague, Elijah’s performance has given the club’s supporters plenty to be excited about. With his youth and talent on their side, the young striker is expected to be a key figure in Flamengo’s quest for glory in upcoming competitions.
