Fulham are close to signing two new defenders in Mohammed Salisu and Calvin Bassey, but manager Marco Silva’s future remains uncertain.
The Cottagers have yet to make a signing this summer, but are hopeful of agreeing deals for Salisu and Bassey in the coming days. Salisu is a 24-year-old Ghanaian defender who plays for Southampton, while Bassey is a 23-year-old Nigerian defender who plays for Ajax.
Silva has confirmed that he has received an offer from another club, but he has refused to comment on his future. He has also said that his squad is not big enough for the new season following the departure of seven players this summer.
“I have much more things on my mind than Mitro, believe me,” Silva said. “The situation is more than just one player. We lost such a big number of players and we have to prepare a Premier League season when you didn’t sign at least one, at least to make the fans a little bit more happy with the situation, this is the biggest situation for me.”
If Silva does leave Fulham, it would be a major blow to the club. He has been a successful manager at Craven Cottage, leading them to promotion to the Premier League last season.
However, the club’s lack of activity in the transfer market has led to speculation that Silva could be tempted by a move to a bigger club.
Only time will tell what the future holds for Silva and Fulham, but the club’s fans will be hoping that they can agree deals for Salisu and Bassey and that Silva remains at the helm.
