‘Jay Jay’ Okocha: I Failed Woefully as Delta FA Chairman 3

“I failed woefully,” he confessed, explaining that he was unable to complete his term and eventually walked away from the position. “I raise my hand; I didn’t achieve anything as Delta FA chairman,” Okocha added, taking full responsibility for the outcome.

“The structure will not allow people like us to succeed,” he stated, lamenting the pervasive corruption that affects not only football but various sectors in the country. He pointed out that individuals with personal agendas often obstruct progress, making it difficult for well-meaning leaders to leave a lasting impact.

Despite his challenges as Delta FA chairman, Okocha remains an influential figure in Nigerian football, widely celebrated for his illustrious playing career and contributions to the sport. His candid admission highlights the need for systemic reform in Nigerian football to create an environment that fosters genuine development and progress.
