Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen is having a remarkable season in Italy’s top flight, Serie A.
The 23-year-old has already scored 20 goals and provided four assists in just 23 appearances for his club, Napoli.
Osimhen’s impressive performances have put him on track to become the first African player to win the prestigious Serie A Golden Boot. The award is given to the player who scores the most goals in a single season. With 20 goals so far, Osimhen is currently the leading scorer in the league.
If Osimhen continues his goal-scoring form, he will also become the highest-scoring African player in Serie A history. He currently has 44 goals to his name, just two behind former AC Milan and Liberia striker George Weah’s record of 46 goals.
Osimhen’s performances have not only impressed fans and pundits but also his Napoli teammates and manager. “Victor is a fantastic player,” said Napoli manager Luciano Spalletti. “He has a great attitude and work ethic, and he’s always hungry to score goals.”
Osimhen himself remains focused on helping Napoli achieve their goals this season. “Individual awards are not important to me,” said Osimhen. “I just want to help my team win games and achieve our targets for the season.”
Napoli currently sits top in the Serie A table. With Osimhen leading the attack, they will be hoping to win their first Serie A title since the days of Diego Maradona in 1990.
As Osimhen continues to shine in Italy, his performances will undoubtedly catch the attention of top clubs across Europe. But for now, he remains focused on making history with Napoli and becoming the first African to win the Serie A Golden Boot.
