Kieran Tierney, the 25-year-old Scottish left-back, has been closely monitored by Newcastle as a potential move away from North London to the North East looms.

Since the arrival of Aleksandr Zinchenko, Tierney has seen limited action this season. Injuries have also been a factor, prompting Arsenal to make a panic buy last season when they signed Nuno Tavares, a cover-up that did not quite work out. As the season wears on, it appears that Tierney has been relegated to the bench.

Tierney, who joined Arsenal from Celtic in 2019 for a fee of £25 million, is valued at around £30 million. He is now Arsenal’s second choice behind Zinchenko, who joined the Gunners in 2022. Despite Newcastle’s interest in a left-back, they are also lining up new contract talks for their current first-choice, Dan Burn.

Tierney spent four seasons in North London, having graduated from Celtic’s academy in 2015. He made 170 senior appearances for the Scottish giants, scoring eight goals and supplying 37 assists. Tierney ended his time in Scotland with four league titles, two Scottish Cups, and two Scottish League Cups. He later added the FA Cup to his trophy cabinet when he won the competition with Arsenal in 2020.

So what does the future hold for Kieran Tierney? It’s clear that his injury record has been a major issue, and his position at Arsenal is far from secure. Newcastle’s interest in the Scottish international suggests that he may be tempted to move away from North London if he continues to be overlooked.

However, Tierney has shown himself to be an excellent left-back with a wealth of experience, particularly in the Scottish Premiership. He’s also shown his potential at Arsenal, where his performances have been of a high standard when he’s been fit. With that in mind, it’s possible that he could still become a key player for the Gunners, even if he is no longer the first choice left-back.

There are signs that Arsenal’s fortunes could change under the management of Mikel Arteta. The Gunners’ recent victories over Manchester United and Chelsea suggest that the team is heading in the right direction. If Tierney can stay fit and continue to perform well, he could be an integral part of Arsenal’s resurgence.
