The NFF’s technical committee chairman, Sheriff Rabiu Inuwa, said on Wednesday that the federation was unable to afford Peseiro’s current salary of $70,000 per month.

“We have given him three days to respond to our proposed pay cut,” Inuwa said. “If he refuses, we will have to appoint a new coach.”

Peseiro has so far refused to accept a pay cut, according to reports.

The 63-year-old Portuguese coach was appointed Super Eagles coach in May 2022, but his contract has not yet been renewed.

The NFF has said that it is willing to renew Peseiro’s contract, but only if he accepts a pay cut.

The ultimatum comes at a time when the Super Eagles are preparing for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.

The Eagles are in Group A of the AFCON, along with Egypt, Sudan, and Guinea-Bissau.

The tournament will be held from January 23 to February 28, 2023.

It remains to be seen whether Peseiro will accept the NFF’s proposal or whether he will quit his job.

The next few days will be crucial in determining the future of the Super Eagles and their preparations for the AFCON.
