The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have joined forces to combat substance abuse among players in the Nigerian football league. This comes after a call to action from NPFL Chairman, Mr. Innocent Elegbeleye.
“The only agency that can help us in this situation is the NDLEA,” Elegbeleye stated. “We need them to work with us to carry out random drug tests on our players. Knowing they’ll be tested will deter them from abusing illicit substances.”
The NDLEA welcomed the initiative. Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd), expressed his support for the program. “We are happy with your request for random drug tests for players,” Marwa declared. “Our services for this are available nationwide, and we’re ready to collaborate and support you in your quest to create a drug-free league.”
This partnership signals a significant step towards promoting a healthier and more ethical environment within the NPFL. Random drug testing will help ensure fair play and protect the well-being of players.
