After facing some delays due to pressing state duties, SCORENigeria can confirm that the eagerly anticipated Presidential Support Group (PSG) for the Super Eagles will finally be announced this week.
The PSG, designed to bolster the Super Eagles’ chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, will be spearheaded by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma. This high-powered group will also include several prominent government officials and representatives from key corporate sponsors.
The PSG’s primary function will be to provide unwavering support to the Super Eagles, streamlining logistical and administrative processes. This includes facilitating approvals and releases of state funds, overcoming bureaucratic hurdles, and ensuring the team has all the necessary resources for optimal performance.
The presidential committee has already received an initial allocation of Three Billion Naira from the Federal Government budget. Furthermore, the PSG has been mandated to actively seek additional funding to further enhance the team’s resources and support infrastructure.
This initiative draws inspiration from the successful model of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) led by then-Rivers Governor Rotimi Amaechi during the 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign. The PTF, instrumental in guiding the Super Eagles through a challenging qualification phase, will also be remembered for its role in funding the construction of the NFF head office.
The imminent announcement of the PSG signals a strong commitment from the Nigerian government to ensuring the Super Eagles’ success on the global stage.
