The management of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) has expressed sadness over the death of a member of the Nigeria Referees Association (NRA), Oyo State Council, Mr Rafiu Kazeem Opeyemi.
The deceased, who until his death, was the chairman, Ona Ara Referees Society, died on Saturday evening in a ghastly accident.
The late referee was returning from a fitness test in Abuja in company of four others when the mishap occurred at Osu, Ilesha, Osun State.
In a statement issued by the club’s media officer, Tosin Omojola, the management of 3SC said it was deeply saddened by the news of Opeyemi’s death.
“We are using this medium to condole with the members of the Oyo State Referees Association and also the family of the deceased,” the statement said.
“It is our prayer that God will grant him eternal rest and give his family, friends and colleagues, the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
“We also wish the trio of Oni Ebenezer Segun, Ajadi Odunayo and Amos, a member of the association from Ogun State, who sustained injuries in the accident, and are currently receiving treatments, quick recovery.”
The statement added that 3SC would continue to support the NRA and its members in any way possible.
Opeyemi’s death is a big loss to the NRA and the football community in Oyo State. He was a dedicated and hardworking referee who was always willing to help others. He will be greatly missed.
