The Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) have announced that Saudi Arabia will host the 2023 TotalEnergies CAF Super Cup.
The match will be played on September 15 at the King Fahd Stadium in Taif.
The CAF Super Cup is an annual match between the winners of the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup. The 2023 Super Cup will feature Al Ahly SC of Egypt, the champions of the CAF Champions League, and USM Alger of Algeria, the champions of the CAF Confederation Cup.
CAF General Secretary Veron Mosengo-Omba said that the decision to host the Super Cup in Saudi Arabia was made in recognition of the country’s growing commitment to football. “African football ranks amongst the best in the world right now,” he said, “and it’s fitting that, in an era where many international stars are heading to Saudi Arabia, African Football is also a part of this movement.
SAFF General Secretary Ibrahim Alkassim said that the federation was honored to host the Super Cup and looked forward to a “remarkable match” for everyone involved.
The 2023 CAF Super Cup is the latest in a series of collaborations between CAF and SAFF. In March of this year, the two organizations signed a five-year memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at promoting football development in both Africa and Saudi Arabia.
The MoU covers a wide range of activities, including technical and football development, grassroots football, women’s football, talent identification, competitions, and commercial prospects.
Ticketing information and kick-off times for the 2023 CAF Super Cup will be announced in due course.
