Plumptre, who was born in England to Nigerian parents, said that the team went into the game as underdogs but stuck to the game plan and produced a “special” performance.

“We knew we had a point to prove, we knew we were playing against the fans and everybody that is supporting the host country,” Plumptre speaking to punch said. “I think we stuck to the game plan very well, and it just goes to show that when we all come together very well, these are the things that we can produce.”

The win over Australia was a significant one for the Super Falcons, who have never won a World Cup title. The victory also helped the team to top Group B, with one game remaining in the group stage.

Plumptre said that the win was a “big moment” for the team and that it would give them “a lot of confidence” going into their next game against Ireland.

“It means a lot for us and everybody who has been supporting us so far,” Plumptre said. “We’re just going to keep working hard and hopefully we can keep getting these results.”

The Super Falcons have a chance to make history in the 2023 World Cup. If they can win the title, they would become the first African team to do so.
