"Tech Boys" Return: Sporting Lagos Ready to Make Noise in 13th Gold Cup Tourney 3

The "Tech Boys" are returning to the competition that served as a crucial launchpad for their successful promotion campaign into the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

Sporting Lagos first featured in the premier off-season tournament during the 2023-2024 season, the year they secured their place in the top flight. Their return this year is seen by many as a statement of intent as they fine-tune their squad and tactics ahead of the 2025-2026 NPFL campaign.

The 13th edition of the Gold Cup, officially known as the Optima Energy Gold Cup Preseason Tournament, will run from October 16th to 25th at the FC Ebedei Stadium in Apele-Sagamu.

The tournament is a key platform for Nigerian clubs across the three tiers of the league—NPFL, NNL, and NLO—to test new formations and players, giving emerging talent an opportunity to impress before the official league season commences.

While some traditional powerhouses, including defending champions Shooting Stars, will be absent due to the adjusted NPFL calendar, Sporting Lagos’ presence promises to generate excitement. Known for their unique culture and passionate fan base, their performance in the preseason spectacle will be closely watched by fans and analysts eager to gauge their readiness for the new campaign.

For Sporting Lagos, the competition offers a valuable chance to integrate new signings and solidify their tactical approach under their coaching staff, ensuring they are prepared to make an even stronger impact in the NPFL this coming season.
