Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has defended Bruno Fernandes as captain, saying that he does not understand why people doubt his ability to lead the team.
“I don’t understand why people doubt Bruno Fernandes as our captain, really,” Ten Hag said at a press conference. “He’s key for us. He’s a leader on and off the pitch. He’s always there for his teammates. He’s a big part of this team.”
Fernandes has been criticized by some for his performances on the pitch, but Ten Hag believes that he is still the best man to lead the team.
“Everyone has mistakes and no one is perfect,” Ten Hag said. “But Bruno is massively important to us. He’s a great player and a great leader. I have no doubt that he is the right man to be our captain.”
Ten Hag’s comments come at a time when Fernandes is under pressure to keep his place in the Manchester United team. The club has signed new players in the summer, and Fernandes could find himself on the bench if he does not perform well.
However, Ten Hag’s support for Fernandes will be a boost for the Portuguese midfielder. He will be hoping that he can repay Ten Hag’s faith and help Manchester United to success this season.
