The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has confirmed the appointment of Belgian Paul Put as the new head coach of the Uganda national team on a two-year contract.
Put replaces Milutin Sredojevic, who was sacked in September after failing to qualify the Cranes for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Put is a highly experienced coach, having managed several national teams in Africa, including Burkina Faso, Gambia, Kenya, and Congo. He led Burkina Faso to the final of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, and also helped Guinea to a quarter-final finish in 2019.
FUFA president Moses Magogo said that Put was the best candidate for the job, and that his experience and knowledge of African football would be invaluable to the Cranes.
“We believe that Paul Put is the best coach to lead the Uganda Cranes forward,” Magogo said. “He has a proven track record of success in Africa, and we are confident that he can help us to achieve our goals.”
Put said that he was excited to take on the challenge of coaching the Uganda Cranes.
Put’s first task will be to prepare the Cranes for the start of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in March 2024.
