West Ham United have emerged as the favorites to sign prolific Zambian striker Patson Daka.
Daka, 22, has enjoyed a stellar season with Austrian club RB Salzburg, scoring 34 goals and contributing 12 assists in 42 appearances across all competitions. This impressive form comes after West Ham expressed interest in January following the departure of Sebastien Haller to Ajax.
Manager David Moyes is reportedly eager to land the Zambian forward, who was recently excused from national team duty to focus on a potential transfer away from Salzburg. West Ham’s qualification for the Europa League could be a key factor in attracting Daka, who is understood to have several offers on the table.
However, West Ham face competition for Daka’s signature. RB Leipzig, Salzburg’s sister club, is reportedly prepared to offer a five-year deal, while Premier League giants Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, and Arsenal are also interested in acquiring the Austrian Bundesliga’s top scorer.
A move to West Ham would see him following in the footsteps of Zambian compatriots Emmanuel Mayuka (Southampton) and Collins Mbesuma (Portsmouth) who previously played in the Premier League. Further back, Fred Mwila Snr and Emment Kapemgwe played for Aston Villa in the 1960s.
