Brentford Football Club is known for having a number of songs and chants that its fans use to support the team on the pitch.
The club’s most famous anthem is “Hey Jude” by The Beatles, and other popular songs include “Brentford Till I Die” and “We Are Brentford.” The team’s fans have also been known to sing the humorous “We’re The Barcelona Of The Lower Leagues,” given the club’s history of playing in the lower leagues of English football.
At the Brentford Community Stadium, fans can also be heard singing “We Are The Bees” (a reference to the team’s nickname), “B.R.E.N.T.F.O.R.D.”, “Our Name Is Brentford”, and “We’ll Sing On Our Own.”
Brentford FC adopted “Hey Jude” as their anthem because the song was played by the club’s stadium announcer, Peter Gilham, for a girl named Judy Kaufman (also known as Jude) in 1968.
The song gained popularity among Brentford fans and has been associated with the club ever since. In August 2021, Brentford won their first top-flight match in 74 years, defeating Arsenal 2-0, and footage of the fans singing a passionate version of “Hey Jude” in celebration went viral.
The club has also used the song to announce new player signings, including the addition of Jude Russell to the Brentford B side in July 2021. In addition to Brentford, “Hey Jude” is also sung by fans of Manchester City and Arsenal. Manchester City fans began singing the song after the team’s 1968 title win, substituting “City” for “Jude” in the chorus.
Arsenal fans, on the other hand, started singing “Hey Jude” to celebrate goals scored by former striker Oliver Giroud, replacing “Jude” with “Giroud” in the chorus.
Brentford Hey Jude Lyrics
Brentford
Don’t make it bad,
Take a sad song and make it better,
Remember to let her into your heart
Then you will start to make it better, better, better, better, ooh.
Na na na,
Na na na na Brenford,
Na na na,
Na na na na Brenford…
