Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has expressed the country’s readiness to host major sports events due to the advanced infrastructure in place during a meeting with the head of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Mostsepe, on Sunday.
Madbouly and Minister of Sports Ashraf Sobhy discussed the relocation of CAF’s headquarters to East Cairo, where many institutions are also being relocated, from its current location in 6th of October City west of Cairo.
Madbouly reiterated Egypt’s full support for CAF’s plans to develop African football and the continent’s presence in international events. He praised Africa’s performance in the latest World Cup in Qatar as evidence of the continent’s level in the game.
The prime minister also highlighted Egypt’s International Olympic City (EIOC), strategically situated between Cairo, Suez, Ain Sokhna, and the Administrative Capital. The EIOC occupies 450 feddans and includes a 92,000-seat stadium.
Egypt has a strong focus on sports and has hosted major events such as the African Nations Football Championship and the Handball World Cup. Mostsepe expressed his enthusiasm for further cooperation between CAF and Egypt.
Egypt’s infrastructure and commitment to sports make it an ideal host for future sports events, and with the potential relocation of CAF’s headquarters to East Cairo, the country is poised to become an even more significant player in African football.
