Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku paid a visit to the Medeama SC team camp on Saturday ahead of their CAF Champions League clash with Nigerian side Remo Stars SC.
The Ghana Premier League champions are scheduled to face Remo at the Cape Coast stadium in the first leg of the first preliminary round of the Champions League on Sunday.
Okraku and his entourage met with the Medeama players and technical staff to offer them words of encouragement and motivation. He also presented the club with a cheque of US$30,000 to cushion them in their African adventure.
“I am here to wish you all the best in your upcoming clash with Remo Stars,” Okraku said, according to report from Ghana. “I know you are capable of winning this tie and going all the way to the group stage of the Champions League. I urge you to give it your all and make Ghana proud.”
Medeama coach Samuel Boadu expressed his gratitude to the GFA for their support. He said the money will go a long way in helping the club prepare for the match.
“We are grateful to the GFA for their support,” Boadu said. “This money will help us to prepare well for the match against Remo Stars. We are determined to win this tie and make Ghana proud.”
Medeama will be hoping to make it to the group stage of the Champions League for the first time since 2016. They will face a tough test against Remo Stars, who are the defending Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) champions.
The winner of this tie will advance to the second preliminary round, where they will face Guinean giants Horoya AC.
