The future of Randy Waldrum as coach of the Super Falcons remains uncertain, with the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) yet to make a decision on his contract.
Waldrum’s current deal expires at the end of August, and he has made it clear that he wants to stay on. However, the NFF has said that it will make a decision after the Super Falcons’ Olympic qualifiers next month.
In a statement, NFF President Ibrahim Gusau said: “When the contract of the coach expires, we have to allow the Technical Committee to do their job and make a proper recommendation.
“Next month, the Super Falcons will play in the Olympic Qualifiers and before that time we must have decided on who will be the coach.”
Waldrum was appointed Super Falcons coach in 2020, and he has led the team to the Women’s World Cup and the Olympic qualifiers. He has also overseen a period of great improvement in the team’s results, with the Super Falcons unbeaten in their last 10 matches.
However, Waldrum has also been criticized for his handling of the team, and he was involved in a public spat with the NFF in the lead-up to the World Cup.
It remains to be seen whether the NFF will give Waldrum a new contract. However, if he does stay on, he will be under pressure to lead the Super Falcons to success in the Olympic qualifiers and the 2024 Olympics.
In the meantime, the NFF will need to make a decision on Waldrum’s future soon, as the Super Falcons’ Olympic qualifiers are just a few weeks away.
