Victor Boniface has made history by becoming the player with the most shots in 5 matches, breaking the record previously held by Uwe Wegmann.
However, the Nigerian striker is not celebrating his achievement, insisting that he should have scored more goals.
Boniface scored 6 goals in his first 6 matches for new club Bayer Leverkusen, and had a total of 38 shots on goal. This is more than any other player in European top-flight history over the same period.
Despite his impressive record, Boniface is not satisfied. He believes that he should have scored even more goals, and is determined to improve his finishing.
“If you shoot 38 times on goal you should have scored at least 25 goals,” Boniface told reporters. “That’s why I don’t congratulate myself. I’m not happy with my finishing, and I know I can do better.”
Boniface’s ambition is admirable, and he is clearly a player who is always striving to improve. If he can manage to convert more of his chances, he could become one of the most prolific strikers in Europe.
