More Than a Midfielder: Alex Iwobi Announces Debut EP ‘More To Life’

⏱ 2 min read

Fulham and Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi is officially trading his boots for the recording booth—at least for a moment.

The versatile midfielder has sent shockwaves through both the sporting and music worlds by announcing his debut EP, titled More To Life, set for global release on April 9, 2026.

Recording under the artist name ’17’—a nod to his signature shirt number—Iwobi is the latest high-profile athlete to bridge the gap between the Premier League and the music charts.

A Journey of Growth

The announcement was accompanied by striking black-and-white artwork featuring a contemporary portrait of Iwobi alongside childhood photos from 1998, 2004, and 2010. The imagery reinforces the EP’s central theme: a personal exploration of identity, evolution, and the reality of being more than just a professional athlete.

“Music has always been a creative outlet for me to manage the pressures of the game,” Iwobi has shared in the past. “This project is about showing the world that there is more to my story.” via Business Day

What to Expect: Sound & Collaborations

The 8-track project (some reports suggest 9) is expected to be a masterclass in Afrowave and Afrobeats, deeply rooted in Iwobi’s Nigerian heritage while reflecting his London upbringing.

Fans have already had a taste of what’s to come with the lead single, “Track 0 (Freestyle),” which showcased Iwobi’s confident flow and lyrical depth. The EP also features an impressive roster of collaborators, including:

  • Fido: The producer/artist behind 2025’s massive hit “Joy Is Coming.”

  • 24AM: The musical alias of Aston Villa midfielder Amadou Onana.

  • Teniola Time, Giddi, P17, 4AM, and SPKS.

A New Era for the “Athlete-Artist”

While many footballers have dabbled in music, industry insiders suggest Iwobi’s transition is more than just a hobby. By securing collaborations with top-tier talent like Fido, Iwobi is positioning himself as a serious contender in the Nigerian music scene.

With over 300 Premier League appearances to his name, Iwobi continues to perform at the highest level for Fulham. However, come April 9th, the “17” on his back will take a backseat to the “17” on the cover of what is already one of the most anticipated crossover projects of the year.

‘More To Life’ drops on all major streaming platforms April 9th. 🚨
